BDSwiss To Sponsor Omonia Women’s Football Team

LinkedIn +

BDSwiss is proud to announce its most recent sponsorship of Omonia Women’s Football Team. Omonia Women’s Football Team was established in 2017 and has since contributed to the transformation of competitive female sports in Cyprus.

Earlier this year, the team won the 2020-2021 Women’s Cup Final during a match against Apollon Women’s Football Team. The win was an incredible victory for the team as it was the very first time that they won the Cup Final. The team’s goalkeeper, Konstantina Koouzalis proudly stated that “Omonia is making history in women’s football,” following the impressive win. Konstantina was the MVP of the Cup Final, blocking several goals from the opposing team and contributing significantly to the team’s win.

More recently, on Sunday, October 3rd, 2021, the team achieved their first and very important win of the season during a match against Aris Women’s Football Team; a challenging game, which was the second match of the season and was played away from home. The match resulted in 0:1.

The sponsorship reflects BDSwiss’s commitment to supporting the local community as well as diversity in male-dominated sports, such as football. The Football Association (FA) banned women from football in 1921, considering the sport “unsuitable for women”. While the ban was eventually lifted in 1971, prejudice in the sport has remained. At BDSwiss we oppose bigotry of any sort, in particular gender discrimination. In turn, we embrace diversity, equality, and inclusion.

We look forward to supporting the growth and development of Omonia Women’s Football Team and standing by their side this season. We wish the team the best of luck in 2021-2022.
